Here was their mission:
Your task is to create a stabilized country in the Persian Gulf/Middle East area of our world. The area has gone through a lot of change over the centuries. Sometimes the change is brought on by conflict over natural resources like water and oil.
The problems are:
· Conflict over access to oil (money) and water
· Conflict over control of government by various religious sects within the region
You are part of an international team that has been given this task by the United Nations. They have asked that your team create a stabilized country within this area and find ways to keep sustain peace in the region.
Your audience is not just the people and cultures of the region. Oil has been globalized with mass production sold around the world. Many “superpowers” want to maintain a “presence” in the region. In other words, your audience is the entire world.
There has been much unrest in this region throughout history. Currently there are a few areas where violent conflict happening. A war is winding down between the U.S. and Iraq. There are already different groups trying to take leadership of the vacated government there. In Syria there is an ongoing civil war between its citizens and military lead by President Assad. For decades there have been border wars between Lebanon, Palestinian citizens and Israel.
Your team will be asked to present your plan on your new stabilized region to the classroom. You can choose how to present your plan to the class. Some options are poster boards or power points.
