Just the Facts:
1) How many jobs will they bring to the Baltimore area?
2)What types of benefits will it provide its employees?
3)What service does Amazon.com provide its customers?
4) Why do you think this distribution center is located so close to the Port of Baltimore?

Here was their mission:
Your task is to create a stabilized country in the Persian Gulf/Middle East area of our world. The area has gone through a lot of change over the centuries. Sometimes the change is brought on by conflict over natural resources like water and oil.
The problems are:
· Conflict over access to oil (money) and water
· Conflict over control of government by various religious sects within the region
You are part of an international team that has been given this task by the United Nations. They have asked that your team create a stabilized country within this area and find ways to keep sustain peace in the region.
Your audience is not just the people and cultures of the region. Oil has been globalized with mass production sold around the world. Many “superpowers” want to maintain a “presence” in the region. In other words, your audience is the entire world.
There has been much unrest in this region throughout history. Currently there are a few areas where violent conflict happening. A war is winding down between the U.S. and Iraq. There are already different groups trying to take leadership of the vacated government there. In Syria there is an ongoing civil war between its citizens and military lead by President Assad. For decades there have been border wars between Lebanon, Palestinian citizens and Israel.
Your team will be asked to present your plan on your new stabilized region to the classroom. You can choose how to present your plan to the class. Some options are poster boards or power points.
STANDARDS and CRITERIA for SUCCESS
Your work will be judged on three descriptors from the IB assessment rubric for Humanities.
· Show detailed knowledge and understanding of facts an ideas through descriptions, explanations and examples
· Identifies in detail the main points of ideas, events, issues or arguments
This week we will begin our new unit Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry. We will be analyzing and exploring the concept of culture in its various forms as well as human rights. This unit will be taught thematically with our unit on Egypt and North Africa (ancient times to present) in which the same questions will be asked. The Essential Question that will be asked of us daily is "How does culture shape ones identity?" In addition to our Lang. Arts novel we will be reading magazine articles, our Social Studies textbook and a variety of other books I have on these subjects in the classroom.
This week some of groups chose to do some "drama" for their Chapter 8 "Follow-up" activity. jawan, Wesley and Jack chose the scene where Percy somehow managed to over power the sword fighting instructor. Aya, Sophie and Maggie chose the scene where the students in Camp Half-Blood were playing a game. Again, somehow Percy was able to overcome some ruffians AND a hellhound. Does anyone recall how he was able to do that?
This page is dedicated to the work and research my students do each day.
