Their research began by reading various articles, books, and other documents about his background, presidency, and his 1948 campaign. I was able to provide some help from my own family. My grandparents and great grandparents were friends with President Truman. They were all from the same town of Independence, Missouri. My great grandfather kept numerous letters that he and Truman wrote to each other. In addition, Truman wrote a personal message to him in the front cover of Truman's Memoirs.
At this point Team Truman has collected close to 40 primary and secondary sources on the President who liked to keep his finger on the pulse of the common citizen around the country. If you want to learn more about President Truman's "Hometown Legacy", a legacy that was difficult for other presidents to follow, please join us on Thursday, Feb. 12th from 6 to 8 pm to view their documentary!
